CHARLES THOMSON SCHOLAR AWARD

Not every figure in history stands at the front.

Some stand at the centre...
watching, recording, ensuring that what is said is what is kept.

Charles Thomson was one of them.

***

Born in Maghera, County Londonderry, Thomson crossed the Atlantic as a child and went on to serve as Secretary of the Continental Congress for fifteen years.

He did not write the Declaration of Independence.
He did not lead armies or deliver speeches.

But he was present, every day...
recording debates, decisions, disagreements, and outcomes.

When the words were finally agreed,
it was Thomson who ensured they were formally recognised and preserved.

His name appears on the first printed copies of the Declaration, alongside John Hancock and the printer, John Dunlap.

Not as a symbol of power...
but as a mark of record.

He did not shape the words.
He ensured they were true.

In Project Pioneer™, every group has an Anchor.

Not the loudest voice.
Not the one who decides.

The one who listens carefully, records honestly, and ensures that what is agreed is what is meant.

Because words carry weight...
and someone must be responsible for holding them.

***

Charles Thomson reminds us that history is not only shaped by those who speak...
but by those who ensure that what is spoken endures.

"Every generation must decide what matters... and find the words to protect it."
